Fleece (2018)

The artificial Dorito is a comment on the artistic scene in Eindhoven. It expresses the feeling of being left-out and without opportunities. The work was inspired by a photo depicting a meeting of the ‘’peer critique selection’’; a gathering  in which local artists and curators discuss an artwork. In the foreground of the picture, you see a hastily put together food-and-drinks table with an untouched bowl of Dorito chips. It’s pure desperation. The chips are a metaphor for how, as an outsider, there is no access to this scene whatsoever. The title ‘fleece’ refers to something that offers comfort, and also that takes the one form (an animal skin) while in fact being another (a synthetic product).
